More than 20 Horizon 2020 energy efficiency projects will showcase their innovative results, share best practices and discuss challenges at this year EU Sustainable Energy Week, 17-21 June, in Brussels. Energy efficiency is key in shaping Europe’s energy future as energy savings are an excellent way of saving money for consumers as well as reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
On 19 June, two policy sessions organised by EASME Energy Unit will feature Horizon 2020 projects. “Empowering Energy consumers – innovative approaches from European project” will feature projects proposing innovative solutions to engage and empower consumers in energy efficient behaviours:
- SAVES2 supports students minimising the carbon footprint of their accomodation
- PEAKapp developed an app to encourage energy efficient lifestyles
- REFURB focuses on a one-stop shop approach for energy efficient renovations in the private housing sector
- REScoop PLUS develops tools to support energy savings for Renewable Energy Sources cooperatives
- CHEETAH provides empirical evidence for the effectiveness of energy saving policies
The policy session “Local authorities as drivers to address Climate Change” will host several projects funded under Horizon2020 Energy Efficiency:
- CoME EASY works on empowering public authorities in planning, implementing and monitoring sustainable energy and climate policies
- IMPLEMENT is improving local energy and climate policy through quality management and certification
- C-TRACK 50 works on putting regions on track for carbon neutrality by 2050
- PENTAHELIX focuses on developing and testing a new approach for integrating multi-governace planning for sustainable energy
- EMPOWERING contributes to the action of public authorities in building integrated sustainable energy strategies and plans
Other projects will be present in the afternoon at the policy session "Financing energy efficiency and small-scale renewables projects – EU & CEM":
- SEAF enables investment in small to medium sized projects in Sustainable Energy Assets (SEA) through a holistic online platform
- EeMAP is working on a market benchmark to stimulate energy efficiency investment by households in the EU’s housing stock by way of a private banking financing mechanism.
- EUROPACE develops innovative financing solutions to boost energy efficiency investment in existing buildings
- TRANSITION ZERO (Energiesprong) is bringing to the mass market net-zero energy refurbishment solutions
EUSEW Awards:
Three projects also feature among the finalists of the EU Sustainable Energy Awards, which recognise the best sustainable energy projects under 4 categories (Engagement, Innovation, Leadership and Youth:
- SAVES2 under the Youth category
- Transition Zero under the Innovation category
- SMARTER Finance for families under the Leadership category
Winners will be announced during the Opening session of the Policy Conference on 18 June. Vote for your favourite project to help one of them win the Citizen's Award!
